Christina Urias On the Issues

Bond Measure P

I have supported implementation of Bond Measure P’s $390.6 million in proceeds; new school being constructed at Limoneira development; new 29-acre K-12 farm under development; and the continued growth of college/career pathways. I will prioritize the projects that will transform our aging schools into modern, technologically-advanced structures.

Improve Test Scores

Although Santa Paula Unified is showing continuous growth in student performance, more work needs to be done. Our district must focus on where we need to improve and what support is needed, such as teacher professional development. Unifying the districts has resulted in collaboration of K-12 teachers, and money from the Local Control and Accountability Control Plan has enabled us to employ K-12 Common Core specialists.

Student rights

I prioritize students’ rights to campus safety, quality food, address their interest in environmental issues, and have worked to foster an atmosphere of Inclusiveness.

District management

I support our superintendent. He has provided the stability needed to build on advances made since unification. We have an educational management team who is at the top of their game. Our teachers are phenomenal, as is our classified staff. The board provides direction, and we then allow our people to do their job. I rely on our talented team to carry out the values, ideas and beliefs we think are important. Not only is it important to have a vision, but also a plan to actualize and work together towards the vision.
