The Covid-19 pandemic: preventative practices versus reopening of local business and recreation

It is a balance. So far the businesses that have opened in Ventura County have done an excellent job of following protocols. That along with our Citizens have done the same. I will push for protocols to support local business as their need to stay open is essential in our community.

Police reform and systemic racism

I am a believer we can always improve. Law Enforcement should be looking at ways to improve their tactics, including community relations.  There is no place for racism in our society, let alone our police department.

Wildfire and earthquake preparation and alert systems.

This system is our new challenge. Creating resources and educating citizens on best practices go hand-in-hand.

Homelessness and affordable housing development

The affordable housing process needs to be streamlined. HUD and other related federal and state systems need to be revamped and become more cost effective.  The cost of building low income housing in our community is twice as much as market rate housing.  This does not work.

Mitigation of traffic congestion

Our city's traffic issues are on State Highways.  Caltrans has improved our traffic light system to create an 11 percent efficiency improvement.  Our City has approximately 18 percent truck usage.  This is 5 times more than similar cities,  We have an approved budget for another Inspection station just outside of Moorpark to deal with those that want to avoid the Grade inspections.

Attracting and stimulating small business in the downtown area

We have a new Assistant City Manager with this expertise. In just a few months our Economic Development efforts have tripled during Covid-19.
