Foundation in reading and math
My first priority is for every student to achieve grade-level reading in elementary school by reducing K-2 class sizes, and providing resources to struggling students – supporting them before they fall behind. Without a strong foundation in reading and math, students will not be poised to take advantage of the learning opportunities that our middle and high schools provide, such as biotechnology, engineering, computer science and robotics.
I will work to expand existing career pathways for all students, not just those bound for college, to provide practical employment-oriented skills and training. Our students need hands-on, project-based learning that provides the knowledge and experience to prepare them for the careers of the future.
Supplementary support for the schools
I have worked with local businesses, educators and community members to provide grants to teachers to enrich our classrooms – supporting science, technology and the arts in our schools.
It is critical that board members work together effectively, compromising where necessary. I have worked with all of our current trustees for many years and work closely with district leadership. I have a well-established track record among the board and administrators of being constructive and thoughtful, and always advocating for our students’ best interest.
