Thayne Whipple On the Issues

Due to the fact that Mr. Whipple is currently under indictment, the Voters’ Guide refrains from publishing publicly stated positions on issues pertaining to his role as a member of the Ojai School Board. We include Mr. Whipple’s statement regarding the allegations.

Excerpted from the Ventura County Star, 12/11/2019:

“The Ojai school board president and several others allegedly helped conceal more than $1.8 million in excessive campaign contributions between 2016 and 2018, according to a federal indictment.

“Thayne Whipple, board president of the Ojai Unified School District, was named in a grand jury indictment unsealed Dec. 3 in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. On Nov. 7, a grand jury indicted Whipple and seven others, including Ahmad 'Andy' Khawaja, a Los Angeles businessman.”

In an emailed statement, Whipple said he was surprised by the federal charges:

“The allegations came as a complete surprise to me. I have contributed to political candidates, nothing more and nothing less. I have to trust that as the facts are presented, my name will be cleared,” Whipple wrote. “I have not yet been provided with the details of why accusations have been made, but my perception is that the courts are being used for political reasons, and unfortunately I have become a victim of that.”
